Walking Randomly through the web #3
A shameless copy of The Endeavour’s weekend miscellany
Programming
- A Mathematica package for accessing Flikr – doing some cool stuff with Mathematica’s image processing commands.
Food
- What looks like a strawberry, but is white and tastes like a pineapple? – Tasty and weird looking. What more do you want from your food?
- Beef stew – recipe from TV chef Jamie Oliver. I’ve cooked this loads of times now and it never lets me down.
Technology
- First Ipad Reviews are in – Makes me want one more
Life
- Philip Pullman’s Riposte – Damn right!
- Simon Singh wins libel court battle – Common sense prevails at last.
- Animals living without oxygen found – Proving that life is tougher than we thought.
I’m shamelessly flattered. :-)
I’m assuming you’ve seen the latest news that the BCA has now dropped the case against Dr Singh. (http://uk.reuters.com/article/idUKTRE63E37P20100415?sp=true)
Without wanting to get political, I did like the line in the article: “All three main political parties have pledged to reform libel laws should they win the general election on May 6”. Well… if they all want to do this, why not just do it? There’s unanimous support, apparently! Why wait until after the election? (Maybe because then people will forget about it and they can all go back to standard operating procedure of ignoring campaign promises…? I’m such a cynic.)
Something I am wondering is “Will Dr Singh get his money back?” He should do IMHO.
